A Humble Beginning
Once upon a time, in a small village nestled between lush green hills, there lived a poor but kind-hearted boy named Liang. Though he had very little, Liang loved to draw. He would use sticks to sketch on the dusty roads and carve pictures onto tree barks. His biggest dream was to own a real magic paintbrush so he could create beautiful paintings like the great artists he had heard of.
A Mysterious Gift
One night, as Liang lay under the twinkling stars, an old man appeared in his dreams. The man had a long silver beard and eyes that sparkled like the moon. He handed Liang a magic paintbrush and whispered, “Use this wisely. It holds great power.”
When Liang woke up, he found the very same paintbrush lying beside him! Was it a dream, or had the old man really been there? He picked up the brush, dipped it into a small bowl of water, and drew a bird on the ground. To his amazement, the bird came to life and flew away! His heart pounded with excitement—this was no ordinary paintbrush!
Using the Magic for Good
Realizing the incredible power he possessed, Liang decided to use his magic paintbrush for good. He painted food for the hungry, warm clothes for the poor, and even a river for the farmers struggling with drought. The villagers were amazed and grateful, and soon, news of his magical gift spread far and wide.
The Greedy Emperor
One day, the greedy emperor of the land heard about Liang and his wondrous magic paintbrush. He sent his guards to bring Liang to the palace. “Paint me a mountain of gold!” the emperor demanded.
But Liang, knowing the emperor’s cruel ways, refused. “The paintbrush is meant to help those in need, not to satisfy greed,” he said firmly.
Furious, the emperor threw Liang into a dark dungeon and snatched the magic paintbrush for himself. He tried to paint gold, but nothing happened. No matter how many times he waved the brush, the pictures remained lifeless.

Outsmarting the Emperor
The emperor realized that only Liang could make the brush work. He ordered his guards to bring the boy back and threatened him, “Paint as I command, or you shall never see the outside world again!”
Liang pretended to obey. “As you wish, Your Majesty,” he said, bowing. First, he painted a vast ocean. The emperor clapped his hands in glee. “Now, paint me a golden ship!” he ordered.
Liang smiled and painted a grand ship made of gold, floating in the middle of the ocean. The emperor greedily jumped aboard, his eyes gleaming with delight. But just as he reached out to touch the golden sails, Liang added one last stroke—a powerful gust of wind. The waves roared, and the ship drifted far away, carrying the emperor with it. No one ever saw him again.
A New Beginning
With the emperor gone, peace returned to the land. Liang continued using his magic paintbrush to help those in need. He taught children to draw and showed them that true magic did not come from a brush, but from kindness, creativity, and the desire to make the world a better place.
And so, the legend of the magic paintbrush lived on, inspiring generations to use their gifts wisely and selflessly.
Moral of the Story
True magic lies not in power, but in the kindness of one’s heart. Generosity and creativity can change the world far more than greed ever can.
